Wuhan Polytechnic University Library was founded in 1980. The total building area amounts to 14,809 square meters, with 2,285 seats. The library currently has the staffs of 60 members, of which 25 members have the senior and middle professional title. At present, there are opened loan counter of social science and natural science, the reading room of reference books, the reading room of teachers, the periodical room of Chinese and foreign language, audiovisual room, and multimedia electronic reading room in the library.
The library holds the collection of books more than 1,067,000 volumes, of which 280,000 volumes are the books with computerized. It has subscribed to more than 2,042 kinds of periodicals in Chinese, and 29 kinds of foreign language. The library purchased 17 commercial data bases, and set up 6 data bases by itself. After the construction of many years, it has formed a collection system with abundant collection, rational structure, rich assortment, and distinct characteristics, in accordance with the discipline construction existing by substance resources and fictitious resources.
The library had made great efforts in gathering, processing, storing literature, enriching collection, and had formed the collection system on the basis of biology and chemistry, with the specialized of cereal & oil, food, feed and chemistry. In order to develop the function of education and intelligence, the library has provided many information services for consulting intelligence and transmitting literature. The whole library has realized the management of an automatic control system of computer, and will provide comprehensive service for all readers of the university.
